The short answer: an AI visibility score is one number per location that summarizes how often AI assistants name your business when customers ask for a recommendation, compared with the businesses they name instead. It is a measurement, not a ranking you can buy.
What a useful score includes
- The questions. A set of real customer questions for that location and category, not a handful of branded searches.
- The engines. More than one assistant, because ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot and others do not agree.
- Named or not. For each question, whether your business appears, and in what position.
- Who is named instead. The competitors that take your place, and how often.
- The sources. The websites the answers draw on, so the score points to work you can actually do.
How to read it
Look at the trend, not the single number. Answers vary from run to run, so a score that moves a few points either way in a month is normal. A score that climbs over three months while the list of named competitors shrinks means the sources are working.
Questions to ask any provider
- Which questions are tracked, and who chose them?
- Which engines are included?
- How often are they checked?
- How are random differences between runs handled?
- What do I do when the score is low?
What a score cannot do
It cannot make an assistant recommend you. It tells you where you stand and points to the sources to work on. Anyone promising a guaranteed mention is selling something nobody can deliver.
How MGMT Core reports it
Every location gets an AI Visibility Score in a monthly report, with who is named instead, the sources the engines trust and the specialist’s next step. Read more on the Visibility AI page, or see where you stand with the free AI visibility check.
